Health Care and Midterm Election Day

Interestingly, health care is the most highly searched topic in Iowa this week – the week leading up to the Midterm Elections. While our President and Fox News have done a bang up job of making immigrant caravans sound like a clear and present danger to our immediate safety and the safety of everyone we love, most Iowans are, quite understandably, more fearful of their health care coverage being stripped away. (A simple fact check indicates they are not. This is no different than any other caravan of refugees. It’s something that happens pretty regularly, with no affect on our day to day American Life.)
These caravans are not some new and scary monster under our beds. This is no different than any other caravan of refugees. It’s something that happens pretty regularly, with no affect on our day to day American Life.

While our current Governor Kim Reynolds is working to privatize our Medicaid system, she’s taking campaign contributions from the same big corporations that have already been in talks to get those Iowa Medicaid contracts. Coincidence?
Nope.
Governor Reynolds’ first order of business, upon being sworn into her (unelected) role as Governor, was to look at restructuring IPERS – a restructure that would deplete almost HALF of our state’s teachers’ retirement funds…and who benefits from the change? The same big companies who are funding her ongoing campaign.
It saddens me to know that Global Warming, Climate Change, any Planet-related topic is not on this list, but I’ll take what I can get. I’m relieved to see that Iowans are woke enough (as the kids say) to be interested in how this election will affect their health care coverage. I just hope they’re not as daft as Governor Reynolds seems to think we are.
I won’t go into a long diatribe about how socialized health care is not the devil term so many people think it is, or how Medicaid and Medicare ARE ABSOLUTELY socialized health care, or how socialism isn’t a black and white fucking issue, so stop hearing it and being triggered by the word, you damn snowflakes…
Oops. Sorry. End diatribe.
This is my last minute Election Day plea:
Iowa, please, please, do not buy into Governor Reynolds’ lies. Please, let’s do what’s right for our collective health. Vote for the Dems who have been protecting our care all along.
